Excerpt from the June 23, 2009 installation speech of President G. Scott McLeod:

“….As I began to think about the coming year, I felt that I should have some type of guiding theme to keep me, and the Club, on track. I thought about what it takes for this Club to be successful. And for some reason….Weather kept creeping into my mind. So working with that topic, it occurred to me that perhaps BRIGHTNESS would be appropriate.

                                                                                Scott McLeod

The word Bright has many meanings.

Bright can be a degree of light. This, obviously, is needed in the form of sunshine at our Strawberry Booth, Swamp Yankee Days and the Golf Tournament, if we are to reach our greatest potential.

Bright can be a degree of intelligence. This is represented in the knowledge and creativity that the members of this Club so often use to make responsible decisions and in the talent of the many students to whom we provide scholarships each years.

And Bright and also be an emotion. If we are true to our mission, than we will most certainly “brighten the day” for many people.

So, I suggest that the coming year be referred to as a year of brightness. That we pray for sunshine; use the culmination of all of our intelligence and most importantly…brighten the day for all those we come in contact with.”
